Mollie & David

•June 5, 2007 • Leave a Comment

I met Mollie & David for the first time on May 27th; the photographer they booked was ill and unfortunately couldn’t shoot their wedding on June 2nd.  They planned a beach wedding at the Tucker’s Point Club in Tucker’s Town, Hamilton Parish.  We met at the Club for a walk-through of the day’s events. Since it was only the week before the wedding when we met, I sensed that Mollie was a bit nervous…I told her not to worry.  The weather was perfect for an outdoor beach wedding….here are a few images:

Some shots from my wedding this past weekend.  The following images are from the rehersal the night before the wedding

I honestly don’t know.  She came walking in and I wasn’t sure what was on her head.  The things women do to look beautiful

Ring bearer Xavier (sp)….he was the MAN! If I am still around shooting Xavier, I’ll shoot ya wedding for sure!!

I met Claire where she was getting her make-up applied on the morning of her wedding.  She said the way she had her dress hanging was perfect for picture taking.  When I walked into her hotel room, my jaw dropped!!!  I was amazed, no stunned by her dress!  Claire’s dress had royal blue trim and royal blue in the train..man, it was B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L.  She doesn’t know how happy she made me. It was only a few days prior when I was talking with someone else about how I wanted to shoot a non white dress; Claire’s dress came close.

Sisters Jemma (sp) and Victoria…they were fun to shoot.

Claire and her bridesmaids arrived at the church via the train.

For some reason Nelson said to me a few times “make sure you take a picture of my shoes when I am at the alter”.  I’m saying, Nelson, they are only black patent leather shoes!

Karen & Wellington

•May 27, 2007 • Leave a Comment

Karen & Wellington won an engagement photo shoot that I gave away in a drawing at Anthony’s Bridal Show in Jan 2006. We finally got around to shooting the session at Devonshire Bay last week.

It was a fun and hilarious shoot because the two of them couldn’t stop laughing. Here is one of their more serious images.

05-20-07-01.jpg

Another somewhat serious moment

05-20-07-02.jpg

We spent maybe 40 mins at Devonshire Bay and then went to the Aboretum.  As we were walking around, we noticed there were some leaves on the ground. So what did Karen and Wellington decide to do??  They wanted to have a leaf fight…

05-20-07-09.jpg

However, the leaves were small and didn’t have the effect that Karen wanted. She noticed a bigger tree with bigger leaves…but first she wanted to be ‘Jane’

 05-20-07-04.jpg

After her impression of Jane, the battle began…

05-20-07-05.jpg

05-20-07-10.jpg

 05-20-07-11.jpg

After the leaf fight, we headed back to Devonshire Bay because Karen wanted to do something fun and get wet.  There were some fisherman by the jetty cleaning some freeshly caught fish.  As sure as the sun rises in the East, Karen found someting to laugh at..

05-20-07-03.jpg

The water combatants headed to the ‘battleground’ and Karen stopped short in her tracks when she realized how cold the water was..

 05-20-07-08.jpg

The water fight soon began…

05-20-07-06.jpg

05-20-07-07.jpg

It was a battle that Wellington lost as he was soaked and Karen was relatively dry.

Shades of Desire

•May 15, 2007 • Leave a Comment

Secrets held their Mother’s Day all male fashion show, ‘Shades of Desire on Saturday, May 11 at the Fairmount Southampton Princess.

I have spoken to a few friends of mine that were  in attendance and this is how some of them described the evening:

Sexy, hott, excellent, tasteful, entertaining and tantalizing.  One female attendee even mentioned that she was surprised to see that there were still good looking [Bermudian] men out there.  She aslo mentioned that she realised that it took a lot of guts for a guy to come on stage in front of women he knew/grew up with; and for that reason, she was proud to see the guys on stage doing their ‘thang’.

Fellas, I believe Secrets is having a Father’s Day ‘all female fashion show.  If Saturday’s show was any indication of things to come, I suggest you get your tickets early!!

Ladies, unfortunately I can’t show you any other images besides the one here.  I suggest you make it a point to go to next year’s event.

Before & After

•May 4, 2007 • Leave a Comment

I think it is fair to say that the world we are living in today is far different then the world from 20, 10 or even 5 years ago. We now have HDTV, iPod’s, online banking, constant chnages in cell phone technology, automobiles that can drive themselves, and the list can go on and on. Why is it then, that some wedding photographers are stuck in the rut of shooting/thinking as they did 5, 10 or 20 years ago? Wedding photography doesn’t have to be the same ‘ole same ‘ole.  No, I don’t have earth shattering ideas but from time to time I like to think outside the box and try something new and/or different.

The below pictures are from a recent wedding I shot and I wanted to share with all of you what I did to create the final image. I will show you the final image first and then walk you through what I did to create it:

AFTER

04-28-07-04b.jpg

Ok, here are the steps.

I walked into the groom’s bedroom and this is what I saw:

04-28-07-01a.jpg

It was a small wedding party, 1 bestman and 3 groomsmen.  I asked Ryan (the Groom) to close the blinds, turn off the lights and then asked all the guys to sit on the edge of the bed. I then grabbed a table that Ryan’s mom had in the hallway and placed some candles (yes, I travel with candles) on the table in front of the guys.  This was the result:

04-28-07-02a.jpg

Can you see what the problem is with this image? Go ahead, take a look and I’ll wait a moment for you to find it (music from Jepoardy is playing)……Did you find the problem? No?  Ok, I’ll tell you what bothered me.  The main issue I had with this image is the light coming through the window. The green blind stands out like a sore thumb and was an ‘eyesore’.  Hmmm, how to remedy that?  The easiest and simplest thing to do was to change my angle of view – in other words move my feet and go to another location.  So, I moved to my right and captured this picture:

04-28-07-052.jpg

Ok, this was much better but now the candles bothered me. Why? The human eye is always drawn to the brighest part of an image; in this case, your eyes would’ve been drawn to the candles. When you first look at the picture, is your initial thought that the groom and groomsmen are having a good laugh? Nope! I wanted your eyes to be drawn to the people in the picture so I decided to crop the candles out:

04-28-07-03a.jpg

Now, the lamp above Ryan’s head was an issue for me and I wasn’t feeling the image in colour.  The last thing I did was to clone out the lamp and convert the image to B&W.  Here are the Before & After images for you to do a comparison:

BEFORE

04-28-07-02a.jpg

AFTER

 04-28-07-04b.jpg

Doesn’t this image look 10 times better? There aren’t any distractions in the After image and your immediate thought (at least mine is) is that these guys are having a good laugh at something.  So there you have it – wedding photography doesn’t have to be the same ‘ole same ‘ole.  Don’t be afraid to Think Outside The Box once in a while, you’ll be amazed at what can be created!!

One last thing – as you can see, this picture isn’t tack sharp. That was my intention for this particular image so don’t think that it was a mistake.

From time to time I will post some BEFORE & AFTER images of wedding and non-wedding photography. Be sure to check back often.

Sisterly Love

•May 4, 2007 • 1 Comment

I received a phone call a few weeks ago from Christine saying that she had seen some of my work from a friend of hers and she would like to get some pictures taken of herself.  She brought along her younger sister and here are a few of the images created.

By far this is my favourite image of the photo session.  I decided to convert this image into a brown tone; I think the brown tone gives the image a bit of warmth, which was displayed between the 2 sisters. Christine said that her mom wanted an enlargement of this picture to hang in her house. The enlargement will probably be an 18×24 canvas print.

“I’ve done it” – Welcome to my first blog!

•May 4, 2007 • Leave a Comment

Welcome to Chic Studio’s new blog.  I decided to start ‘blogging’ for a few reasons:

  • to connect with my current clients on a regular basis to share images, stories, product offerings and more.
  • to allow potential clients to get to know me a little better – get a feel for how I operate and my work style.
  • I created it for family and friends who just want to be nosy and see what I am up to.

I welcome you to check back often as I will be updating the blog on a regular basis.  Also, feel free to leave comments.
